A Plastic-Free Month
Today I commit to a plastic-free month.
Inspired by the woman who has lived without waste for two years, and by my dear friend Lydia Ainscough who did a month without plastic last November, I’ve decided it’s my turn to try conscious consumption.
Starting May 1st, I will consume no plastic for 30 days. I will completely avoid single-use plastic containers and packaging, and cast a bright light on the waste that I produce.
You and I use and dispose of a lot of plastic. Are you conscious of it?
Well, I’m not. But I know that I create a positive impact in my world. That means I leave a friendly emotional footprint: I live in compassion, I engage with creatures at a soul level, and I take responsibility for myself. Now I want to leave a friendly material footprint as well.
It’s time for me to take a long look at the ‘stuff’ that I consume, waste, and leave behind. To examine my material output with the same rigor I apply to my energetic output.
And I'm going to start with my favourite and most overused resource, plastic. Let the next 30 days be a willing experiment to stop plastic consumption and examine my relationship to plastic use. Even my yoga mat.
Typed with love on the plastic keys of my keyboard,
Maeve
