I am not for Everyone
Last week at Whistler's animal shelter WAG, I was surprised to hear that they had haters. There are people in this town who don't like the shelter and who want it gone. I've always thought of the shelter as a good cause, and was humbled to remember that some people will oppose what I think are altruistic causes.
The reality is, not everyone loves everything. At a personal level, this is really important to remember. It's tempting to say "Haters gonna hate," but so much more rewarding to quote my friend Alex Echols and say "I am not for everyone."
Whatever you're up to and whatever journey you're on, everyone is not meant to love you. And that's all good. Do your work and be true to yourself. By releasing the expectation that the whole world loves you, you free yourself to just be.
